2016 Rolling Thunder

I rode to the mall with Donnie Rabone  again this year for Rolling Thunder. I believe this is the 6th year we have done this. As usual we left the Greenbelt American Legion with an escort from the park police. This is just an awesome experience as those guys get you downtown in record time. They stop all traffic and run us through stop sings and red lights. I am not sure what that does to all of the traffic  cameras in DC but they do it for the president all of the time so i guess they figure it out. For camera gear I went real light this year/ Sony a6000 with the Sony 18-105G and the Canon G9x. The Canon is just tiny and if all goes well it will end being the only camera I use when on the bike. Time will tell. Here is a shot of Donnie sitting on his bike right after we arrived. rt16-1 I’ll throw in a shot of my ride here as well. I can’t believe the old girl is 10 years old. Still runs like the day I got her but I think a few cosmetics are in order soon. Gotta get something for turning 10 i guess 🙂  rt16-9

We walked a fair bit of the Mall this year. The first thing I see every year when entering the mall is this tree. rt16-2 I need to remember to bring a lens wide enough to capture things properly some time.  Speaking of trees. The cherry blossom trees around the tidal basin are just ugly ass trees when not in bloom. It seems all of them have thees short, cancerous looking burls all over them. rt16-7 Since it is Memorial day weekend the Vietnam Memorial was packed. rt16-6 It is amazing all of the things people leave there. This one caught my eye. rt16-5 I also stumbled across what I believe is a memorial honoring nurses but I did not find a plaque for it. rt16-3 Here are a few shots of the the statue that is part of the Vietnam memorial. I am not sure of it’s name. Actually the Nurses statue is part of the Vietnam Memorial as well. I think the wall and these statues all make up the memorial. This one is the most photographed.rt16-8 Here is another angle that i like with the flag in the background. rt16-4 I will add some more in a few days and probably give some sort of a review of the G9x….
