Rolling Thunder…….

I rode down to Rolling Thunder with my buddy Donny. We left from The Greenbelt American Legion in Greenbelt MD. This is an excellent place to leave from as they have a police escort all the way to the mall and a parking spot reserved for us down there. I would estimate there were over 500 bikes in the caravan and the park police got us down there in about 20 minutes. This of course is an unheard of time to get down town Washington DC without the police escort so thanks to them :)….. I don’t normally keep the bag on the back rest but today that sucker was loaded with Ice cold Bud Lights and they really hit the spot after walking around the mall for a while… Here is a shot of our bikes lined up ready to go…..

A shot from the Edison and Ford winter estates in Ft Myers, Florida

OK, I am riding down to the mall today for Rolling Thunder and will be shooting there. I am going to post this shot from The Edison and Ford winter estates today and will focus on Rolling Thunder next week.

The Edison and Ford winter estates is a really interesting place. It has the original buildings the two inventors stayed in while in Ft. Myers plus the grounds are one big flowing garden. This orchid was growing out of a tree and I think the colors pop. Canon G9 1/250th at F5.6…

Reflections….

I went to Philly a while ago and took the tank along with me. The tank is my Canon T-90. I believe the film I used was the regular old Kodak Max 100 but am not sure any more. This view of this building and the reflection kinda caught my eye and the tank did a nice job with it….

I’m back….

OK, so this blog has been dead for a while now but i am back. I have a new plan to post a photo a day. I know nothing for 2 years and now this. Well I didn’t say I was shooting every day, just posting a photo every day. I have a bunch I shot over the last few years that need attention plus I’ll still be shooting. So here is the first photo of the day post….

Spent a long weekend down in Fort Myers. My brother has this setup on the beach down there. Walking distance to a few bars and right on the water.  Photo was with my little Panasonic Lumix FH2. I am going to post a lot from this little camera as it is the perfect pocket camera and as you can see I have no bags on my bike but the front one so carrying a big rig is out :)…

Test of lighting at Crofton

Here are the shots from the lighting test at Crofton. all 1/60th @ f4 iso 800. I used program mode per Gary Fongs video for the lightsphere. I believe I will have to go to Manual mode and get the shutter up a little…

Philly

I spent Saturday morning walking around Philly. I had very good intentions of getting to Franklin and Washington Squares but my lack of navigation skills caught up to me again. Apparently Market Street hits a big ol building in the middle of the city. I studied mapquest before I left and wanted to park on Market Street about 6 blocks from the end. Well, as I was driving down Market Street I saw this big building and pulled into a parking spot at the intersection  of 17th and Arch. I walked around for a while without realizing I should have come up on Franklin Square by now. I was to far away to head back so I made the best of the locations I found.

Honestly this gives me a reason to go back because I found Philly a nice clean fun city to walk through. I had the 40D with me and the 24-70 mounted on it. Not one odd look from anyone. I think Philly gets a bad wrap in the press cause I thought it was great. I will show a few images here and then a gallery in the new galleries section of this site….

Nikon Lenses

I need a little help Identifying these lenses. I am mostly a Canon guy so the whole Nikon Ai thing has always been a mystery to me. Here are the lenses and what I think I have….

OK here is what I think I have. The first and last photos are group shots so starting with image 2. This is a Vivitar 135mm /2.8. It is really well built and comes with a nice metal hood. Sad;y this is a non AI lens I believe and would not work on a D100. Image 3 is of a 35~70 /3.5~4.8. This thing is plastic and feels cheap. It does not have the metal tong that all of the other lenses have. I am guessing E series here from what I read but that may be wrong. This may be AIS since the F22 mark is orange and it has a little half circle routed out of the bottom. Also there are 2 very small holes where a tong would be so it may just not be on this lens or has broken off. The aperture ring does not have any click stops and it does not want to stay in place on the f3. There seems to be a spring that wants to move it and without the stops it keeps shifting to the end. Works fine on the F. I am guessing this will mount on a D100 but may have the same aperture ring problem. It is cheap and I don’t care much about it. Image 4 is 50mm /1.4. This is a very well made lens that I believe to be non AI. To bad it is a very nice lens. It will stay on the F. Image 5 is the micro Nikkor 105mm /4. I thought this was AI-s but now believe it to be AI. I think it will work on the D100. Image 6 is a 50mm /2. Also in nice shape but I believe non AI as well. It is a shame because I was hoping one of the 50’s would make it on the D100. This one lives on a nikkormat and I guess that is where it will stay. Image 7 is a 43~86 mm /3.5. I believe this to be AI and good to go in a D100. The hood is not original to this lens.  So in a nutshell I believe I can mount the 105, and 43~86 and have them work albeit without metering on a D100. The 2 50’s and the Vivitar are out and the plastic 35~70 zoom may work if it is not broken. Sound about right? thanks for any help….Griz.
