A shot from the Edison and Ford winter estates in Ft Myers, Florida

OK, I am riding down to the mall today for Rolling Thunder and will be shooting there. I am going to post this shot from The Edison and Ford winter estates today and will focus on Rolling Thunder next week.

The Edison and Ford winter estates is a really interesting place. It has the original buildings the two inventors stayed in while in Ft. Myers plus the grounds are one big flowing garden. This orchid was growing out of a tree and I think the colors pop. Canon G9 1/250th at F5.6…

The big one….

We are getting clobbered by a snow storm right now. Could end up being the biggest ever in the area. I fear we will loose power for the better part of a week but hopefully not. Here are a few shots of the snow. The last 2 are from a few minutes ago to show the snow coming down….. All I did was open the door and stick the G9 outside and pop….. :). It works. By the way I am a very hard headed manual shooter but these were done in the snow scene mode of the G9. If there was ever any scene mode that actually works in my mind it is this one. Canon got it right on I think…. I’ll post more shots tomorrow if I have power….

Second classic camera uploaded.

I was in Florida for the last 12 days and I keep a Canon AE-1 Program down there. If there ever was a classic this is it. Just a great little camera which is why it stays in Florida. I can count on it when I need it. I still have a few FD and FL lenses there as well. I know there is the FD 35~70 that is mounted on it as well as an FD 50 /1.8. I also have a FL 135/3.5 and FD 70~210 macro down in Florida as well. I snapped some shots of my bike while I was there and will scan them tonight and post them…..Griz

Happy New Year

OK, this is my first post of the year. I made a New Years resolution to shoot every single roll of film I have in the refrigerator this year. That is going to be a chore since I have around 185 rolls in there. The weather today is not cooperating and my hangover yesterday was a greater deterrent.  All I was able to do was play with the G9 and 420ex with Gary Fong Lightspere on it. Granted the G9 looks a little silly with all of that flash and modifier on it:

My G9 🙂

The Fong modifier actual does work. I found this used and do not think I could justify the full price for the thing. Here is a shot of Birdie my cat.

Birdie

She is about the only subject I have when I am stuck indoors and she does not like this modeling stuff one bit. I was just about 2 feet from Birdie with the dome cap on the lightsphere. G9 was set to Tv mode at 1/250 and the aperture became 3.2 at iso 80. All I did was a little cropping since composing Birdie is quite problematic, and a little white balance adjustment. The background is a mirror and is a little washed out since it was reflecting the flash. All in all I am happy with this result for a quick grab of a PITA subject. I like the 420/Fong combo and will be playing with it more in the future.

UUUUUUGH!!!

Just finished shoveling and my back is killing me. This was shot with my trusty little G9. Great carry around camera. I will most likely do a post about my equipment at some point but the G9 is a super camera for quick grab shots. It has full manual control and will take external flash so it can actually be creative. Oddly I used the built in snow scene setting for this shot. I almost always shoot manual or aperture priority. But on a whim I tried this and was pretty darned surprised as to how well it handled what can be a very difficult setting (snow).

This sucked.....
