The Washington Nationals won the World Series and of course had a parade downtown. I fought my way through the crowd but honestly this was the most difficult photo assignment I ever went on. There were just to many people :(. It made it very difficult to shoot. First I was on the wrong side of the street with the sun beaming into my camera. I tried hiding behind a tree to block some of the flare. Second. A good amount of the time as the bus holding the players went by they might have been on the other side of the bus. So it was.a strugle. Here are some shots I got. The shots of players on the bus are severe crops. Camera used was the EOS-RP with EOS 24-105 f?3.5-6.3 IS STM.
A pic from my trip to Connecticut.
2016 Rolling Thunder
I rode to the mall with Donnie Rabone again this year for Rolling Thunder. I believe this is the 6th year we have done this. As usual we left the Greenbelt American Legion with an escort from the park police. This is just an awesome experience as those guys get you downtown in record time. They stop all traffic and run us through stop sings and red lights. I am not sure what that does to all of the traffic cameras in DC but they do it for the president all of the time so i guess they figure it out. For camera gear I went real light this year/ Sony a6000 with the Sony 18-105G and the Canon G9x. The Canon is just tiny and if all goes well it will end being the only camera I use when on the bike. Time will tell. Here is a shot of Donnie sitting on his bike right after we arrived.
I’ll throw in a shot of my ride here as well. I can’t believe the old girl is 10 years old. Still runs like the day I got her but I think a few cosmetics are in order soon. Gotta get something for turning 10 i guess 🙂
We walked a fair bit of the Mall this year. The first thing I see every year when entering the mall is this tree.
I need to remember to bring a lens wide enough to capture things properly some time. Speaking of trees. The cherry blossom trees around the tidal basin are just ugly ass trees when not in bloom. It seems all of them have thees short, cancerous looking burls all over them.
Since it is Memorial day weekend the Vietnam Memorial was packed.
It is amazing all of the things people leave there. This one caught my eye.
I also stumbled across what I believe is a memorial honoring nurses but I did not find a plaque for it.
Here are a few shots of the the statue that is part of the Vietnam memorial. I am not sure of it’s name. Actually the Nurses statue is part of the Vietnam Memorial as well. I think the wall and these statues all make up the memorial. This one is the most photographed.
Here is another angle that i like with the flag in the background.
I will add some more in a few days and probably give some sort of a review of the G9x….
Testing new Panasonic 42.5/f1.7 lens…
With the micro 4/3 crop of 2x this becomes an 85mm equivalent for full frame. I need to practice with this in the studio with controlled lighting. this was wide open at 1.7 and 1/15th a second. I also need to update the firmware on the GX8 to get the in body stabilization working properly. But the lens has OIS so this is pretty sharp for 1/15th with my shaky hands. Thanks again to Kendra for being my test model. As usual she looks great :)…
Cheery blossom time again
I did not make it to the mall this year but luckily Gunpowder Golf Course has 4 cherry trees next to the putting green. I’ll post a few more photos shortly.. there is also a lone tree in the middle of the field where they have the short course setup. It is also in full bloom right now but I am not 100% sure what type of tree it is. It also looks great out there by itself though.
A few shots from NY City…
I went to the NY last weekend and am finally getting to look at the images in Lightroom. I need to learn more about architectural photography before my next trip. I am not hating these but am not happy either. The biggest thing is the perspective you get of the buildings from pointing up at them. Lightroom tries to correct this but as you can see it did not do so well on the WTC building. The Flatiron building is probably my favorite building in NY and I am happy with this shot but for the sky. I may drop a nice puffy cloud sky into this image. I need to redo the WTC image after I learn the lens correction features of Lightroom. I honestly never have needed them much before this… This flower is one of many wedged into the names of the people lost on 9/11. It was difficult to walk around this area.
Donny and I at the Nuzback’s Christmas party with a suspicious character performing the photobomb :)…
FIRE!!!
Now I am rolling…
OK, after posting he squirrel I wanted more. So after work I put the 70-200 f/4L on the EOS-M and went back out. The birds got most of the rolls by now but the tomato and carrots are still around. As are all of the stray cats in the hood. :). I am also playing with what size to make the images in the blog. This is the medium size in WordPress. The squirrel was the large size. I’ll figure it out. I need to backup my sight tonight and do a ton of upgrades to WordPress. Hopefully there will be more options after that.

I am back :)
I cannot believe it has been so long since I stopped posting here. Well I am back into photography again and will be making some posts here soon with some equipment changes and other things I have learned since I stopped posting.
A quick grab at lunch today. I can’t help it I like my squirrels. I was working from home today so I was able to just walk to the kitchen for lunch. (absolute best part of WFH). I noticed I had some old hamburger rolls and a tomato that were ready for the squirrels. So I threw them in the back yard and ate my lunch. Once I finished I grabbed the EOS-M and popped this off. Camera is on a monopod with Bogen 3265 head.
He looks squished here cause this is a crop. Click on the picture for the real perspective…
